OUR STORY

We are based on the South Coast of Kent & specialise in mainly pedigree, registered Shetland Sheep and have since 2021 when we decided Shetlands were the right breed for us. Shetland Sheep are a small, slow maturing, primitive breed, they are hardy, come in a wide range of colours and patterns and need little to no interference. A lot of people (including ourselves) cross a commercial ram over Shetland ewes, not only because they are such good milky mothers but it also helps the lambs mature quicker. Shetlands take around 16-18 months to get to their fully mature weight, but due to hogget meat (16-24 months) not being popular we sometimes have to cross our Shetland ewes. When ram lambs are born we normally have them castrated, and we try our hardest try and find pet home for them, which isn't always possible. When this is not possible our wether lambs (castrated males), will have the very best care given to them, along with no chemicals or antibiotics (unless advised by our vet) and fed a 99% grass diet until they reach an appropriate weight, which is when they are sent to the abbaitor to the be sold as meat boxes to local families, friends, people in the community and also to feed our family too.
